Frequently Asked
Questions About Public Speaking Workout
Question: I’m skeptical. How can you help people gain confidence in only 4 hours?
Answer: What other skills have you developed with only 4 hours of training?
You probably do it frequently for new job skills at work. And, you’ve probably gone to
investing, estate planning, or motivational workshops for a much higher price.
Four hours with a professional basketball (or any sport skill) coach
will quickly help you improve your skills and gain confidence. You won’t be ready for the NBA, but you will have the confidence to
start becoming a better player. And you will have to practice.
This is a prefect analogy for PSWO.
You probably won’t be ready to become a professional speaker, but you will be better prepared to speak at an office meeting tomorrow.
Or, for you it may be giving a speech at a conference, a demonstration or stepping up to a leadership position.
You might just want to feel more comfortable giving a toast at a friend’s wedding, speaking at the town meeting or leading prayers at your church.
Whatever your goal, you will have to practice.
PSWO training will give you the knowledge, skills, experience and confidence to take on every speaking opportunity that arises for you.
With your new experience and confidence, you will be better prepared and more comfortable to handle them.
How will more confidence help your life and your career?
Question: Will I actually have to speak?
Answer: Yes, at least 4 times for each person.
And, at basketball practice you will have to shoot foul shots and do lay ups,
repeatedly. You cannot learn to swim without getting wet. Over 2,000 people have attended PSWO training.
It was developed to give people a safe and comfortable place to learn, practice and get coached --- basically to improve and gain confidence as you are doing it.
Question: I am really nervous. How big is the class and how will you make me feel comfortable?
Answer: Most PSWOs have between 8-10 participants, big enough to make a valid audience, but small enough to give each person a lot of individual attention.
Like the basketball coach, I give you lots of individual attention.
The goal of PSWO is that you become a more comfortable, confident and skilled speaker
wherever and whenever you speak.
Question: I have some speaking experience. What will I get out of it?
Answer: You will get plenty. Speakers of all levels have attended PSWO.
For more experienced speakers, it functions as a good ‘diagnostic test’.
It will help you become more aware of your strong and weak skills, your style and both how you sound and how you appear in front of an audience.
It is also a great way to review and remind you of the necessary basic skills.
Feedback from the audience helps you become aware of how they perceive you.
There is definitely something here for everyone.
Question: Will any other attendees comment on my performance?
Answer: Yes, but PSWO training is a caring supportive encouraging environment.
As each individual is coached to improve his/her skills, all others are keenly observing and listening.
Starting with exercise #2, feedback is encouraged from the audience.
It is amazing how quickly confidence builds when attendees hear encouraging comments from 8-10 others going through the same experience.
Question: Can I come to another PSWO ?
Answer: Yes. Using the basket ball analogy again, “How many times world you go to basketball practice?”
You need on going practice. Whether you come to another PSWO, attend the full day PSWO or join
Toastmasters, you need to practice these skills every bit as much as a sport skill, a business skill, or learning to dance.
